All-Ireland Football Final

Now that the excitement of the All-Ireland final(s) is over, can I congratulate our past pupil who represented the school in the underage challenge match on the day. We hope that he, and his family, had a day to remember.

Welcome Back for 2016 – 2017

We are looking forward to welcoming back the pupils and staff of our school on Thursday next. School starts at 9:20 on Thursday morning and we will be open to receive pupils from 9:10.

We will be delighted to welcome our new pupils also and we wish them well as they begin their educational journey in our school.

This year there will be some changes to staffing as Mrs. McCabe, Mr. Keane and Mrs. Mc Goldrick are on leave. Ms Sinéad Beirne will be teaching fifth class for the duration of Mrs. McCabe’s leave. Ms Michelle Kelly will be teaching second class for the duration of Mr. Keane’s leave and Mr. Aidan Flynn will be teaching Junior Infants for the duration of Mrs. McGoldrick’s leave – Mrs. McGoldrick will not be returning until September 2017. Ms. Sinéad Rogers will be working as a resource teacher in the school. We wish the teachers on leave well especially those who have new babies on the way! We extend a warm welcome to our new members of staff.

And finally we send our best wishes to our past pupils, especially to those who are beginning secondary school and to those who have completed leaving cert. Ráth Dé oraibh go léir.

Goodbye for 2015 – 2016

We had a lovely final  assembly in school today. Many children were presented with certificates, medals or trophies for their many achievements. The Oberwan family (Radek, Arek & Sandra) raised the Active school flag and the McKeon family (Shane, Conor & Matthew) raised the Green Flag.

Thanks to Mr. Doyle and Anne Flood for helping to present the medals today. Thanks also to Fr. Frankie for attending and for all of his support and kindness during this, his first year working with our school. Thanks to Willie Donnellan for taking lots of pictures today – keep an eye on the Leitrim Observer over the next few weeks and you’ll probably see some of them.

Well done to all of our school community, children and staff for another happy, busy, memorable year. See you in September.

And finally goodbye and God bless to a great sixth class. We wish you happiness and success in the years ahead.

Memories of sixth class

This week we are saying goodbye to sixth class and celebrating all they have done, especially in this, their final year in the school. Follow the link below to enjoy some of the many things they did in school this year. Sincere thanks to Brigid Rowan-Castellano for putting this together for us.

End of year – memories and goodbyes

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another school year and that the summer holidays are almost on top of us. This term has been busier than ever .

I think that two things will stand out for me when I look back on the past few months. The first is the achievement of our first ever Active School Flag. Everyone in the school played a part in this especially during Active School Week. It’s great to see so many people still walking and cycling to school.

The second event that stands out for me is the girls’ Cumann na mBunscol final – great see that cup back on our shelf for the second successive year. Of course the Active School and the Cumann na mBunscol are connected in many ways. The fitness of the girls on the team was commented upon, even in the match report, and all the preparation for Active School had a hand in that. Mrs. Kelly was actively involved in both and I want to thank her again for all her hard work. Thanks also to Anne (Flood) for her commitment to football in our school and for her kindness to the girls. Congratulations also to the boys’ team – it was hard to lose a final by such a narrow margin but the work rate and the spirit in that group means that I know they will be successful in future competitions. Thanks to Mr. Molloy and Mr. Flynn for training them and taking such an interest in them.

And so it’s time to say goodbye to  Áine,  Amy,  Arek, Ben, Chloe, Conor, Eibhlín, Eoin, Étáin, Grace,  Holly, Jake, Kacper, Lauren, Lauryn, Maria, Niamh, Olwyn, Rachel B, Rachel Mc, Radek, Ronan, Rory, Roslyn, Sam, Sarah, Shane, Shay, Tara, Timmy and Zaklina. You have been a great Sixth Class in every way. You’ve worked hard, behaved well, competed well, taken part, shown example and kept your sense of humour through it all. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

I wish you health, success and happiness and lots of fun in the years ahead.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the girls’ football team who won the county Division A Cumann na mBunscol competition for the second year in a row. On a memorable and sunny evening in Páirc Seán, the girls were strong, determined and skillful. Great credit goes to them and to their trainers, Aisling Kelly and Ann Flood.

Busy Weeks!

School has been particularly busy since Easter with all kinds of special events.

Back on April 10th, the boys and girls in 6th class celebrated their Confirmation with a lovely ceremony in the church led by Bishop Francis. Congratulations to them all.

At the end of April the children in second class celebrated their First Communion. It was a very special day for them all. They looked really lovely and they all took part in the ceremony which made it very special indeed. Well done and congratulations to  all.

Over the past two weeks, we have enjoyed four marvellous plays

  • The Pied Piper performed by third class
  • Frankie and Me performed by fifth class
  • The Zany Zoo performed by first class
  • Uncle Crumble’s Mad Machine performed by fourth class

Congratulations and thanks to all the pupils, teachers and SNAs involved. We enjoyed every moment of these great shows. Check out the class pages on the website for some fabulous photos.

And now it’s ACTIVE SCHOOLS’ WEEK!

During this week we are encouraging children to be extra active at home and at school. Every day, each class is having an hour of activities in school. We will have our sponsored walk on Thursday. Swimming for second class will begin on Friday 13th. A fitness programme for senior classes is also beginning on Friday and will run until the end of the school year. Children are being given activities as part of their homework.

Well done, Ms. McLoughlin, Ms. Keegan and especially Mrs Kelly  for organising such a great week.
