Christmas Play 2016
Here are some pictures of our Christmas play ‘The Donkey Seller’.
Memories of 2016
Hope you enjoy this great picture of us dressed up for Halloween.
We made mummies out of glass jars, masking paper and white gauze.
In creative writing we created a 2nd class book describing witches appearances and actions.
November 2016
We learnt about the Mexican Festival of the Day of the Dead. This festival is celebrated l around Halloween on the the 1st and 2nd November (All Saints and All Souls Day). Loved ones are honoured and it is a celebration of their life. Candied skulls are eaten and skull masks skulls are decorated in bright colours and patterns.
In second class we sketched self portraits and created a side profile silhouette using a lamp. Then we cut the profile out and painted it black and stuck it onto coloured card.
Well, would you believe it. 2015 is almost over and boy, has it flown! We have been uber-busy with plays, drumming, art competitions, science domes, quizzes- we even fitted in some time for hip-hopping! We visited the library as well which we loved doing. Everybody loves reading here in 2nd which always helps 🙂
Here are a collection of pictures taken from Term 1. More to follow in the new tern… we promise. Much more! Oh, and by the way-
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Spring Poems. We Have a Winner.
To mark the occasion of spring, we decided to have a poetry carousel on poems to do with Spring. We get split into groups, get a poem to read, discuss and score, and then pass on to another group. With seven groups in all, we all got to read seven poems. We then tallied up the scores. Mr. Keane lost patience here a few times, but eventually found the winner… with only 4 points separating 1st and 2nd place.
Have a look down here to read the poems and vote on your favourite.

Here is the winning poem chosen by Second class:

Credit Union Winners
Conor is pictured here holding his winning entry (2nd Place) in the recent Credit Union Art Competition. It was a great piece of work, and he was a deserved winner. Conor is now turning his attention to writing and, we hear, is on the brink of publishing a book soon. His publicist and marketing manager, Sean, are preparing a press release as we speak. Watch this space!
Love? Say it with jewellery x
We have been rolling, shaping, threading, smoothing, painting, cutting and… driving our teacher mad this week, making jewellery for our loved ones. They started out looking grey and boring but we soon saw to that, as you will see below. Some people managed to paint their whole hands in the process… we won’t mention any names 🙂 Keep an eye out for the finished product.
Isaac’s Butterfly
Check out Isaac’s butterfly that he made with Ms. Beirne. It’s symmetrical. Do you know what that means? If not, ask me teh next time you see me 🙂
Spring is Here!
Check out Sebastian’s brilliant Spring picture. Roll on the daffodils and the sunshine 🙂 Thanks Sebastian
We’ve been weaving!
Check out our weaving magic here. what we plan to do is make a giant mural of St. Brigid’s Cloak to display in the school. So, if you have any old (or new, we’re not fussy) wool at home, send it on it. Here are a few that got finished last week. Watch this space!
Stained Glass, well, er… paper… windows!

It may not be St. Patrick’s Cathedral; In fact, it may not even be glass, but we had great fun with out stained glass art windows the other week. The best thing about this is that we only used the three primary colours and white to come up with all these amazing colours! Impressive, eh?
We started off with this:
Then we had to build them:

Then glue them and paint them!
Give us a PIZZA fractions!
Maths can be hungry work in Second. This week we are learning all about fractions- in particular, 1/2s and 1/4s. Did you know? 1/2 of 1/2 is equal to 1/4. The pizzas look nice, don’t they? Ms Crossan brought those in… pity we can’t eat them!
They’re magnetic, in case you’re wondering!
The Ugly Duckling By 2nd Class
(and Hans Christian Anderson of course!)
Check out our fabric and fibre table art based on Hans Christian Anderson’s famous story- The Ugly Duckling. We learned all about this famous writer and about his native country, Denmark. We even had Marie- a Danish mum- come in and tell us all about the country. She even made us Danish pastries! Yum! Thanks Marie 🙂
The art was taken apart straight after art class. It took a few minutes… much less time than it did to make… and tidy up from! We call this art ‘temporary’ without the ‘Con!’
AHOY ME HEARTIES!
Ahoy me hearties! Check out our Treasure maps and our buried treasure chest. Can you notice anything about the place names on the map? Yup- Alliteration- that means that both words begin with the same letter. Some of our favourite place names were; Ghosts Graveyard, Creaky Canyon, Haunted Hotel and Slimy Swamp. Mrs Cox helped us to stain the paper by using tea bags from the staff room. Thankfully, they drink a lot of tea there 🙂
Expanding Art in Second Class!
So, to start off our 2nd class posts, have a look at our ‘expanding art’ from a number of weeks ago. You’ll get the idea- you are given a half of a picture and invited to complete it… Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed doing it!
Second class made up some plays based on the main events of 1974 as part of our school celebrations for our fortieth anniversary. Here is a photo of us in our costumes.
